What is it?

OZeWAI is the Australian Web Accessibility Initiative, which is a strong and established group of members. OZeWAI is proud to provide a valuable source of information on accessibility issues and ideas to the broader community.

The OZeWAI conference brings together the most knowledgeable digital accessibility experts, specialists and researchers from all over the world, as well as leaders in the industry, government and non-profit organisations to explore and support digital inclusion topics and ideas.

It will be held over three days, with the schedule covering a wide range of accessibility and inclusive design topics.

Who is it for?

The OZeWAI Conference 2018 is for anyone interested in accessibility and inclusive design including accessibility experts, web researchers, web designers, user experience and user interface designers, front-end developers, project managers and more.

Renata Zanetti

Renata Zanetti is an inclusion specialist and an accessibility consultant with Intopia. Renata is passionate about promoting inclusive communication, dignity and human rights. Renata has progressed work in aid and development, health, education and mainstreaming disability inclusion over the past ten years. She helped teach public speaking at Harvard University, where she was a Kennedy Fellow. She has a background working with UN (UNICEF, UNESCO), NGOs, think-tanks, foundations and Australian government. A qualified facilitator, Renata also has high-level experience in stakeholder engagement and project management and is an avid ideas generator. Engaging in the nexus between health, disability and inclusion, Renata managed the Avoidable Blindness Initiative at AusAID, worked on the team that won an Australia Day Award for the Malaria 2012 conference, and worked to advance disability-inclusion throughout the Australian aid program.

Globally, Renata has worked to create an inclusive communication module for UNICEF, and guidance on universal design. Renata supported a foundation and the DIAUD working group to promote inclusion through the UN Habitat conference and events. She has a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University and a Masters in International Affairs from Geneva. Her thesis on access to education for people with disability through the Marrakesh Treaty was nominated for the best thesis in international law.

Transport

The Mercure Sydney Hotel is a 4-minute walk from the Conference Venue. View Google Map of directions.

Central Station is the closest railway station to the ABC. It is a ten minute walk from Central Station to the ABC’s main entrance on Harris Street. Or from Central Station take the underground pedestrian tunnel all the way to the rear entrance of the ABC (heading towards Haymarket).

There are a number of bus stops on Broadway and George Street within a few minutes walk of the ABC Ultimo Centre. Monorail and Light Rail stops are close by in Haymarket. For more details, call 131 500.

Parking – closest parking is the Novotel Sydney Central at 169-179 Thomas Street, which offers ABC staff and guests a preferential rate of approx. $25 a day, with validation at a ticket machine in the ABC foyer.
